Why did they bother saving her pathetic life...

Mother Smothers Three Children / Sunday, January 29, 2006

DE QUEEN, Ark. — A mother accused of smothering her three young children left notes in the home that could help investigators determine what led to the killings, officials said Sunday. Paula Eleazar Mendez, 43, was in a county jail Sunday after being treated at a hospital for swallowing a toxic substance.

She had collapsed as officers arrived at her home Saturday morning in response to a telephone call from the children's father in New York. Inside the home, the officers found the bodies of the children, ages 6 to 8, lying side-by-side on a bed, said Chris Brackett, an investigator with the Sevier County Sheriff's Office.

"I do not believe there is any dispute as to who killed these three children, and therefore who will be charged," prosecutor Tom Cooper said. "However, we have not determined at this time the particular homicide charge or punishment we will be seeking."

Cooper said an emergency room doctor told him Mendez had not ingested enough of the toxic
substance to kill herself.

...when what they should have done was given her more of the toxic substance?!

Light Sentence for Child Molester Leaves Vermont Judge Under Fire - and the Mad Irishman Mad

My comments: I'll be pithy, lest I get emotionally charged and state how I really feel (which would, undoubtedly, include Hulett and Cashman forcibly anal-raping eachother at gunpoint in the public square while cameras beamed their images around the globe for every child molester and pedo-friendly judge to see. No, wait... they'd probably enjoy that).

In short: this "judge" needs to resign or be fired.

The news article follows...

MONTPELIER, Vt. — Judge Edward Cashman should be the darling of conservatives: a churchgoer, a former prosecutor, a Vietnam vet and a member of the bench known for his hard-line stands: A decade ago he jailed for 41 days the parents of a suspect in a rape case because they refused to cooperate with prosecutors.

In the past few days, though, Cashman has been vilified by conservatives on TV and on blogs. On Fox News, Bill O'Reilly told viewers as video of Cashman rolled: "You may be looking at the worst judge in the USA." And several Vermont Republican lawmakers have demanded he resign or be impeached.

The reason: Cashman sentenced a child molester to just 60 days of jail time — a sentence he said was designed to ensure the man got prompt sex-offender treatment but critics say was too soft.

"As far as we're concerned, Cashman's district can hereby be considered a predator's sanctuary," wrote the Caledonian Record newspaper of St. Johnsbury. "As long as judges like Ed Cashman are allowed to sit on Vermont benches, children cannot be considered safe."

The firestorm erupted last week when Cashman sentenced Mark Hulett, 34, for having sexual contact with a girl, beginning when she was 6, over a four-year period.

Alito Practicing Judicial Neutrality

According to Senator Herb Kohl (D-WI), Supreme Court Justice Nominee Samuel Alito is incapable of impartiality because he has refused to label Roe versus Wade “settled law”. Suppose Alito supported the pro-abortion decision; would that make him neutral? No, it would not; it would make him pro-abortion.

By the sheer definition of judicial neutrality, Alito should not take a position, for or against any measure or policy, including abortion. That is what Alito has done throughout this nomination process. And that is what has earned him the distain of liberals. Kohl and his fellows on the left, regardless of their public proclamations, do not want judicial neutrality. They would not hesitate, even for one brief moment, to support a pro-abortion, activist judge.

A number of Republicans voted for both of President Clinton’s nominees, Stephen Breyer and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. It will be interesting to see which Democrats are capable of impartiality; it will be interesting to see which of them can do what is best for the Nation, put partisan politics aside, and vote for a capable judge based on his qualifications.

NBC's "The Book of Daniel"

The show's description says it all: Aidan Quinn is a priest who speaks to a physical Jesus Christ and abuses painkillers, has a gay son, a promiscuous straight son, a daughter who deals marijuana, and a wife who drinks too much.
